4 Million Starving In Somalia, Government Demands Help

Somalia: Preparing for a major offensiveImage by ISN Security Watch via Flickr

The government of Somalia today requested the military assistance of its neighbor nations, Kenya, Ethopia, Yemen and Djiboubti to combat the rebel Islamist forces which are attempting to take over Somalia.

Sheikh Aden Mohamed Nur in a plea for assistance said "We ask neighbouring countries including Kenya, Djibouti, Ethiopia and Yemen to send troops to Somalia within 24 hours.
The government is weakened by the rebel forces."

Over 4 million citizens are without sufficient food and the number is growing. Resources are virtually non-existent in areas north of Mogidishu where the Islamist forces have taken a stronghold. This is the area that was occupied by displaced citizens seeking government protection.
