Chinese Humanitarian Sentenced To Prison For Printing The Bible

Human Rights For ChinaImage by publik18 via Flickr

Shi Weihan, a Chinese citizen considered a hero by his children and a humanitarian to many others, who tirelessly volunteered for various causes and donated money for education, was sentenced to 3 years in prison by a Beijing court and fined $25,000.

His crime? Printing the Bible and distributing it for free to others who shared the same religious belief in rural China.

Believers are only able to buy Bibles in government approved churches; bookstores are not allowed to sell them. The court's prosecutor said Shi contravened the government's regulations on the administration of publications, which says only companies "approved by the state" are allowed to publish anything in China.

Another human rights violation.
