Iran Shuts Off Communication Links

Where is the Green Vote?Image by lewishamdreamer via Flickr

The Iranian Government has begun jamming radio broadcasts, blocking cell-phones, mobile text services, and blocking internet websites all in an effort to prevent western media reports of irregularities and fraud in the re-election of incumbent President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Former Iranian Prime Minister, Mirhossein Mousavi, the defeated Presidential candidate, has repeatedly stated that pre-election polls indicated that his party would receive 75% of the votes but instead it is officially reported that Mousavi received 37% of the votes, losing the election to Ahmadinejad.

The disparity between the voters expectations and the government figures has provoked enormous civil unrest with demonstrators from both parties engaging in destruction of property.
Mousavi's demands for recounts and relinquishment of the Presidential position are viewed as absurdities by the Ahmadinejad administration who state that the elections were "honest, open and free."
