No, Bonaparte has not arisen. Another, maybe very distant cousin has, in the form of Janet Napolitano as Secretary of the US Department of Homeland Security. A political appointment requiring political savvy, a requirement which appears to be utterly lost on Ms. Napolitano.
Ms. N had the audacity to accuse the Canadians as being a source of terrorism in the world and then stated, for the entire world to hear, that the 911 perpetrators were actually from Canada. Totally bewildered by Ms. N's absurd comments, the U.S. Government remained silent but not the Canadians who took her to task for her uninformed opinions and remarkably stupid comments.
She remains a source of ridicule and embarrassment and who knows which foot she will put in her mouth next. The best course of action for Ms. N would be in the best interests of U.S. national security, that is for her to step aside and allow professionalism to fill the void she leaves behind.
Actually, any comparison to Napolean is unfair since he always knew exactly who his enemies were and never attacked his allies. The difference is in Ms. N's indifference to the facts and reality.

She is tired of the Canadian media harping on this. I am still astonished that someone in her position with her advisers etc could have made such an erroneous statement to begin with causing this myth to be perpetuated. Hmmm-why does this line from South Park's 'Blame Canada' come to mind:
ReplyDelete" We must blame them and cause a fuss
Before somebody thinks of blaming uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuus!!!!"
Just as surprising is the fact that Bush and Clinton on their recent visit to Toronto were unaware of the new US passport rules on border crossings!
