OBAMA UPSTAGES OSAMA

US President Barack Obama, in Cairo today, stated clearly in his address to the Arab Nations that the United States is returning to its former policies and ideals and admitted that the concept of Middle-East domination and determination, through conflict, is flawed.

In an effort to undermine President Obama's charisma and leadership, Osama Bin laden allegedly released a new audio tape which warns the Muslim world not to believe that the American Imperialists will follow through on their promises.

For many Muslims in the world, Osama's warnings will ring true. American foreign policy is comparable to the behaviour of a paranoid schizophrenic. One promise made today becomes one rejected policy tomorrow. How can we legitimately expect any Nation to believe that US foreign policy will change any time soon when all of the background players remain the same. President Obama cannot change the world on his efforts alone. The massive number of support personnel required to change just one policy essentially guarantees inertia.

The US has stated in unequivicol terms that it supports Israel unconditionally. Now we must show the Arab Nations that we can support their cause and their rights to self-determination equally with that of Israel. Stating this ideal as policy is one thing, it is entirely another to put it in to practice.

It will take a strong hand and unwavering determination and oversight to make President Obama's promises become a reality in the Middle-East. Obama's words are those that needed to be spoken and the promises are those that needed to be made, but rhetoric has had its day. Failing to follow through now will result in increased tension and conflict in the Middle-East bringing the world closer than ever to the brink of World War Three. Sphere: Related Content
