SpaceShipOneImage via Wikipedia

Carved out of the dust of the New Mexico desert, the worlds first Spaceport was dedicated today in a ground-breaking ceremony with just a few hundred people present. In 18 months the first Virgin Galactic space vehicle will call the Sierra County Spaceport its home.

With a 10,000 foot runway under construction, the Spaceport America will accomodate the very largest aircraft as the worlds first commercial Spaceport, costing the State of New Mexico $200 Million to complete.

Tenants, including Virgin Galactica, have already committed to leasing manufacturing space and 300 passengers have already committed to the $200,000 fare for the inaugural 2 hour flight.
