AIRBUS, AIR FRANCE 447, ADIRU

So calamities on the Airbus 330 are not as isolated as one might think according to the Time Magazine article http://news.yahoo.com/s/time/08599190242100 which indicates that the problem may be software related.

The ADIRU system is obviously not foolproof having proven to be the culprit of a sudden 650 ft. decline during a Quantas flight on October 7, 2008. The flight control computer malfunctioned or "went crazy" according to the article. The three ADIRU units on board the aircraft are supposed to aggregate the data they receive but on this occasion one ADIRU appeared to control the aircraft causing an abrupt descent and serious injuries to the passengers.

It appears that the ADIRU software has not been changed or modified on the Airbus 330 or 340 and in combination with weather conditions may be the cause of the Air France disaster.

Apparently, the problem is particular to the Airbus 330 and 340 models and has not affected other Airbus aircraft. The question is how can this still be an issue? What does it take to remedy the problem and why would any Airbus 330 or 340 be allowed to fly with the errant software?

Tell me they have all been grounded for modification. Tell me that the problem has been resolved. Tell me that they are all now airworthy. Why would anyone in their right mind fly anywhere on an Airbus 330 or 340 given what we now know? Sphere: Related Content

  1. Seems to be a lot of conclusion jumping.
No one has established that the data transmitted was a cause or a symptom of it's fatal crash.
