James Kitterman, age 60, a US contractor from Houston, Texas was found stabbed to death in his car in Baghdad, Iraq on May 22, 2009.
FBI agents today arrested 5 US personnel and charged them with the first-degree murder of Kitterman. If not extradited to the US, the five US citizens will be tried in Iraq.
Apparently, Kitterman had discovered a fraud perpetrated by the 5 individuals and threatened to disclose his findings to US authorities. It is unclear whether Kitterman had sufficient evidence for an indictment but obviously the 5 individuals assumed that eliminating Kitterman would resolve the problem.
It is believed that Kitterman had disclosed his findings to FBI agents a few days prior to his murder and was encouraged by the Agents to meet with the 5 perpetrators in an effort to gather additional evidence. It is thought that Kitterman was discovered wearing a microphone to record and transmit the meeting and was subsequently bound, gagged, and blindfolded and stabbed to death.
