US President Barack Obama will plead his case to the German government based on the theory that all European Union states should assist in re-locating the Guantanamo detainees. The key factor in closing Guantanamo is finding new homes for its prisoners. There is no other reason for the delay and closing Guantanamo as quickly as possible will be a positive signal to the world that the US war on terror is coming to an end.
But who wants potential trouble makers in their midst? Make no mistake, the Guantanamo detainees are prospective hero's in the world of Islam and their presence in the Muslim community can be a catalyst for an escalation of idealism. Prior to their detention few of the prisoners actually held any clout whatsoever in the Islamic movement. Having acquired an aura of strength and perseverance as a result of the Imperialist incarceration, these men can become instrumental in creating a unity amongst Islamic extremists. The US created these prospective leaders and now faces the challenge of finding homes for them outside of US territories.
Regardless of where they eventually reside they will be watched and followed for many years to come. Who needs a potential resurgence of domestic and international terrorism especially when every nation is struggling to maintain its economy?
