After several years of contract negotiations, Saudi Arabia has finally received the first 2 Typhoon Eurofighter Combat Jets in a ceremony held at the manufacturer BAE Warton Systems in northwest England.

Saudi Arabia has contracted for the purchase of 24 fully completed Eurofighter Jets from Britain and an additional 48 Eurofighter Jets which are to be assembled in Saudi Arabia. The contract totals $33 Billion including service contracts.

The Eurofighter is manufactured in England with participation from numerous European manufacturers and is a multi-purpose jet fighter built for strategic defense use.

Saudi Arabia is replacing its entire airforce strategic defense aircraft in order to maintain defense superiority in the Middle-East. The Typhoon replaces the 1980's BAE Tornado F-3's.

The Boeing F-15 which is presently part of the Saudi fleet will be replaced with F-16's, a deal that is presently under negotiation.
