North Korea Sentences US Journalists to 12 Years Hard Labor

North Korea's Central Court tried US journalists Laura Ling and Euna Lee on an ambiguous charge of committing a "grave crime" against the nation and of illegally entering North Korea.

Their sentence: 12 years hard labor in a North Korean Labor Prison which the Central Court stated will "reform" the two journalists. The sentence is considered final as the Central Court is the highest court in North Korea and therefore an appeal is not possible.

The five day trial took place from June 4, 2008 through June 8, 2009 and sentencing was immediately handed down. The two journalists were employed by Current TV ,based in California, which is owned by former Vice President Al Gore. Sphere: Related Content
