Egypt Seeks Recovery Of Queen Nefertiti

Finally, after more than 70 years of demands it seems likely that the 3,400 year old bust of Queen Nefertiti, allegedly stolen by a German archaeologist who discovered the bust on the banks of the Nile in 1913, will be returned to Egypt.

The Egyptian government has repeatedly sought recovery of the bust but every effort was refused by the German government, including Adolf Hitler.

Germany has profited enormously from possession of the bust by displaying it in Berlin's Egyptian Museum where 500,000 people a year come to visit Queen Nefertiti.

Berlin officials doubt that the bust is sturdy enough to survive a trip to Cairo as it apparently is gradually disintegrating but then a full restoration should be sufficient motivation for Germany to return stolen property.
