Ottawa today issued a formal complaint to the Sri Lankan Government.
They expressed outrage that an elected official was denied entry into the country on grounds that the visit was "unsuitable".
All party leaders agreed it was very disturbing and required International concern on humanitarian grounds.
Bob Rae at least tried to persuade the authorities at the airport to change their minds. He spent 12 hours arguing with them and telling them it was absurd to deny him entry. They tried to make him sign a false document, confessing that he made statements supporting the Tamils. When he asked what statements, they had no answer.
Genocide has been taking place secretly in the country and people are still dying there unhelped.
This has happened in other countries globally, ie Burma, Pakistan, Rwanda and Darfur.
When the Military take the law into their own hands, and human rights are denied, anything is possible.
Thank God there are still people left on this planet aware of what is going on and are prepared to make an attempt at maintaining human rights.
